Amsterdam, 5 November 2008, In the category of 8 to 12 year olds, the general public has selected MOOV manufactured by BERG Toys as the Toy of the Year 2008! MOOV is a building package that allows you to design and build your own vehicle in a trice and it was includes in a short list that consumers could vote upon.

The vote

A professional jury consisting of 12 people from retail organisations, journalists and toy experts, nominated five articles – out of 200 submissions – in the each age category. The jury wrote the following about MOOV: “A Dutch invention which is extremely sound and robust. You build your own vehicle; your tools are your hands. Build, toil and race.”

The public

The public had an opportunity to vote on their favourite product according to age category. From September 3rd until November 2nd via the website www.speelgoedvanhetjaar.nl MOOV received the most votes from the public!

From a scooter to a 4-wheeler

Children can experiment endlessly with the components of MOOV. These include special metal ribbed bars, flexible rings and wooden boards, a foam seat, steering rope, brakes, reflectors and – of course – mud guards. These comprise the base for each design, the basic outlines with which the mechanic/designer can put together an unbelievable number of variations.

Go-kart 2008

The idea of MOOV originated from a request for wheels that BERG Toys received for building a go-kart. After three years of development, the old-time go-kart obtained new zest: MOOV. Children became the mechanics with the possible assistance of their parents. They could build or redo the most diverse models according to their insights and fantasy, and later play with them alone or with friends. MOOV is manufactured according to strict quality standards for safety and the environment.

The Vote for the Toy of the Year was held this year for the 35th time.

About BERG Toys

The products and the production procedures of BERG Toys not only comply with quality standards, but also with the highest standards for safety. This is supported by the concept of the toy manufacturer that playing together actively and creatively is essential for the development of children, both physically and socially. BERG Toys endeavours to provide pure fun in a durable way to as many children as possible.

Outdoor specialist lets sporty young racers build their own machines

With its MOOV construction system, BERG Toys is now marketing an outstanding innovation in the field of toy vehicles which stimulates the creativity and dexterity of budding young engineers in a very special way. Children from the age of five can use timber pieces, specially shaped plastic rings, steel parts and pneumatic tyres to build four different vehicles: go-kart, scooter, recumbent bike or trike. And all that is possible using just the hands, and no tools. So the specialists in outdoor toys are now offering an extraordinary plaything, with unlimited variations. The real showstopper: if a youngster no longer wants to play on his machine, he can simply build another.

In developing MOOV the designers at BERG Toys recall the good old self-built “soap boxes” of the Fifties, which these days are rarely if ever seen in our neighbourhoods. With the return of these vehicles, BERG Toys are not only resurrecting the childhood legend but also heralding a new era of play. Because true to the maxim of “Make it – Move it” children face a new challenge: before they can race all over the place in one of the four racers, they have to build it. So in this playful way they learn manual skills and in so doing they create a drivable “set of wheels” which will astonish friends and relatives alike, and on which they can travel about in safety. Illustrated instructions contained in the box give children an immediate idea of which parts to use to build the machine they want, and show them step by step how to combine the various elements to create the whole.

These TÜV and GS-certified MOOV construction systems from BERG Toys will be in toy shops and BERG specialist dealers from March 2008. More detailed information on MOOV and other outdoor toys can be found at www.makeitmoveit.com or www.bergtoys.com.
